28-June Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria is killed by  Serbian assassins
28-July Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia and Russia begins to mobilize troops
1-August Germany declares war on Russia
2-August Germany invades Luxembourg
3-August Germany declares war on France
4-August Germany invades Belgium and The United Kingdom declares war on Germany
7-August The British Expeditionary Force arrives in France and the Battle of the Frontiers begins
23-August The Allied Great Retreat to the River Marne begins. Japan declares war against Germany
5-September The First Battle of the Marne begins as the German advance on Paris is halted
 19-October The first Battle of Ypres in Belgium begins
26-October Draycott receives a letter from Ottawa directing him to have a medical examination and forward the document to Ottawa before he receives his transportation papers
10-November Draycott leaves Vancouver by Train heading to Quebec
19-November Draycott departs Canada on the S.S. Grampian and arrives in England 9 days later
17-December Draycott is officially transferred to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry
18-December Draycott Embarks on the S.S. Cardiganshire for Le Havre France arriving the next morning
