Very busy making map for General MacDonnel. Enemy send shells into Poperinghe 11 miles away.

I say good day to Tom Draycot as he goes to trenches.
Enemy shell Poperinghe also drop bombs around our camp.
Sunday 9 July 1916 – fine
Tom Draycot calls & we saunter out for an hour. I give him a waterproof cape. Enemy dropping bombs around our camp.

Canadian division makes raid (4th Bn) failed- too much machine gun fire & much barbed wire obstruction.
Tom Draycot calls & we take walk for 3 hours 7:15 – 10 PM.

At 12 noon today I have a surprise. Tom Draycot of Edmonton comes to see me, we have a chat together. He is in 49th, formerly 66.
