Lord Kitchener is drowned on board HMS Hampshire. Casts gloom over troops. Had relapse from overstrain & injuries. All the brigade is standing to arms.
*Death of Lord Kitchener- On June 5th 1916 Lord Kitchener, then Secretary of State for War was on the armoured Cruiser HMS Hampshire for a diplomatic mission to Russia. The ship struck a mine laid by a German submarine and 643 out of a crew of 655 died, including Lord Kitchener.
