*Kemmel Hill, located in West Flanders, Belgium, was an important battle site in WWI. It was taken on 25 April 1918 by Germans from the French during the Battle of the Lys.

Stay @ Doctor Miller’s residence. “The Trees”. The Stafford doctor sends telegram on to O.C.C. Company re my inability to travel.
Wednesday 17 April 1918
Charles leaves L’pool for Ripon Camp @ 5.30 pm & I at 5.20 pm for Stafford en route for Windsor Park. Harry & Gert see us off. I stay at Stafford as my eyes are troubling me. Report to Doctor Miller.
Tuesday 16 April 1918
Harry, Charles, Gertie & self go for cycle ride thru Knowsley, West Derby, Knotty Ash, etc. Lovely day & thoroughly enjoyable.
Monday 15 April 1918
Charles & I take a trip down town to see time tables re trains. Call on way back @ William’s, [Holling….] etc.

At Harry’s & a great welcome. Charles is home. We have merry time.

Stayed all night at YMCA. Aunt Alice ill in bed with Hemorrage. Leave Derby for Bolton via Manchester at 3.30 pm. Reach Bolton at 7.30 pm. Stay the night.
