Leave L’pl for Mapperley Mid Ry at 2:15 pm via Derby. Arr. Derby @ 5.33. Entrain @ Great North’n Ry @6.35 where my cousin Alice whom I called upon, sees me off. Arr. West Hallam 6.48 pm. Katie (Mrs. Draycot) is there to meet me & we walk 2 miles to Mapperley. Meet Lily (Childers) @ home.

Sent £1 to S.M. Griggs by wire. Take train for Warrington to see Charles in Hospl. (Lord Derby’s) 3 miles out of Warrington. Catch 3.40 train for Bolton. Arr. 4.30. See [Jr.] & wife & Edith & Preston. Leave Bolton 8.35 pm L&N.W.Ry. Arr. L’pool 10.30 via Stanton le Willows.

Leave Nuneaton 5.20. Arr. Leicester 7.10 pm. To Aunts. She is [A1]. To Opera with Elsie & Nancy. Stay at Aunts all night.

To London at 9.44 am. Arrive London 12.25. Take tube (Metropolitan) for Victoria. Arr. 12.50. Train for Seaford via Lewes goes @ 1.30. Arr. Seaford 4.15. Give in pass 5 hours late but ‘tis alright.

Put in pass yesterday for 3 days. It was thrown out. I see Col. Rogers & he grants one. A/CSM Sprais of Bde. Ord. room keeps back my pass for spite on a/c of overruling him.

Leave Seaford @ 2.15 pm for London & L’pool. Arr. London 4.30. Take train for Stafford 5.20 pm (first stop Stafford). Arr. Staff 7.50. Also a train leaves London 5.30 for Liverpool.

Meet Mrs. Dovey, Miss Sybil and son. They have come to Stafford from London to escape air raids.

To a smoker given by Officers, WO’s & NCOs of the Canadian Commd. To original members of the 1st Contingent. I attend. Very noisy. Cigarettes, beer and bread & cheese. Canadian Machine Gun Band in attendance. Bde. Com. Garrett made speech.
