Working up till 12 noon and at 3 pm take train to Shorncliffe. Met Riley and had coffee with him. He goes to London for 3 days. Arrive at camp at 4:30 pm and see the boys.
Have an awful headache.
Met Miss Challis and had chat. Had tea at Salvation Army.
Wrote letters in evening.
Paid £8 by pay master.

My Sister Martha is suffering from a painful affliction of the eyes.
Have usual walk around the town of Ashford.
Wednesday 28 July 1915 – showers
Working as before.
Visit Y.M.C.A in morning at 10:30 and afternoon at 4 for a snack.
To C of E Soldiers Club in evening and Y.M.C.A. I write letters.
Introduced to Miss Lawrence of Chartham.
Tuesday 27 July 1915 – showery
At work doing carpentry all day and put in charge of job.
In evening to Wesleyan Soldier home and “home” at 9:30 pm
Cyril V. Green is very ill, doctor recommends 2 months rest.
*Wesleyan Soldiers home – A British army training camp on the same grounds as the Church of England Soldiers Institute. It contained bedrooms, lecture halls, games rooms and a reading room. The building was demolished in 1960.
Monday July 26 1915
To D.A.A.G[Deputy Assistant Adjutant General] Office for papers to proceed to Ashford.
Miss Cornewall leaves for South Wales.
Left Shorncliffe Station at 12:55.
Arrived at Ashford at 1:45. Interviewed Ordnance Officer at 4 pm. To Billet at 4:30. At 6 to Barrow Hill Terrace (Mrs Harmer). To bed at 10:15
Sunday 25 July 1915 – showers
No Church today, am feeling [bum?] All in with a cold.
Scores of aeroplanes are passing overhead, also airships.
Lieutenant Bevington and 4 other Officers go to the Front to join Princess Pats
Saturday 24 July 1915 – showers
Paraded before Medical Doctors for fitness to go to Army Ordnance Corps at Ashford, Kent.
To D.A.A.G[Deputy Assistant Adjutant General] Office with papers.
To Folkestone at 7:15 and walk back to camp, arrive at 9:20. I escort Miss Cornewall to Rectory.
Friday 23 July 1915 – showers
Paraded at Office of D.A.A.G [Deputy Assistant Adjutant General] Canadian Headquarters for Regiment Employment.
Met Old Tim Lycett (now Regimental Sergeant Major of 12th Battalion of King’s Royal Rifles) and [C.A.M?] [Robson or Rowson?].
They were marching down to the boat and I marched 2 miles with them ahead of Battalion with Colonel Paine and Captain Buller etc.
They embarked at 9:30 pm. I escort Miss Cornewall to Rectory.
Thursday 22 July 1915 – rain
Private Baldock goes to Canada on discharge.
Parade for Regimental Employment.
