Up at 9 am. Breakfast at 9:30. Late for church on account of fixing my new serge etc:
Chatting in evening with Mrs Dr White and after 9:50 till 11 pm with Doctor White.

Sunday 23 August 1914

To Rice Lake Rifle Range with Doctor McMane, Mr. J. Barker & others made 33 score at 200 yards. To church in evening after being at supper with the Neate family. I sit in choir 1st time. A pathetic farewell is given to Mr Ed Hughes at Neate’s. All family are in tears.

3rd anniversary of Death of Walter Draycott of Seagrave. age 49 years.

Finishing off the Verandah and shingling the roof. Mr. Reid, Architect calls & asks me to do some work for him. I consent.

To Church at night & paint table in Vestry.

Tuesday 7 July 1914 – very hot

Putting on Verandah to my house. To church in evening & assist Mrs. Arnott. Freddie Welsh beat Richie in Light Weight Championship of World (20 rounds)


* Frederick Hall Thomas fought Willie Ritchie to be named the Lightweight Boxing Champion of the World. The fight originally was supposed to take place in Vancouver in September of 1914 but was moved to London, England.

Sunday 5 July 1914 – dull

Writing letters in morning to Bessie, Ernest, Harry, Martha, Draycots. Coburn of Dracut, Massachusetts.:
Draycots of Rothley, Postmaster of Rosseau, Wagstaffes of Burnaby.

To Haswell’s in evening for supper afterwards to church. Home at 9 pm. Met Jack Neat, treated him at Williams Store. Confab with Mrs. Arnott at Church regarding Church work.

Working all day at Church in Vestry doing carpentry work. Evening to Haswell’s & took snapshots of Mrs. Graham & Haswell. Mrs. Maycock entertains Mrs. Graham to afternoon tea.
