Raining unmercifully
Busy packing up. Said good bye to Reverend & Mrs. N.J. Thompson also Mr Holte.
4 pm young Frank Neate calls: busy getting ready. Leave at 5 pm for Vancouver, after having supper with Mrs. Graham and Charles
To Vancouver at 6:30 pm to C.P.R
Train leaves at 6:45 pm. I kiss Mrs. Graham good bye & bid good bye to Charles also.
Monday 9 November 1914 – fair
To Post Office & received my transportation papers from Ottawa.
Mrs Graham (Bessie) says “I am absolutely Happy” ?!!x?????
Said good bye to Mr Neats, Maude, Jack Barker, Whipps.
To Vancouver with Mrs. F Graham & Charles. Went to Dominion & Rex Theatre. C.P.R. Station.
To Neate’s and Esdaile’s & I said good-bye also to Councillor Westover & Duncan’s.
Back to Graham’s at 10:30 pm
Sunday 8 November 1914 – rain
To St. Clements Church in evening Reverend Mr Fen preached.
To Neate’s in afternoon for tea & went to Church from the house with Mr John, Miss Kathlyn & Lily also Mr Keats.
Saturday 7 November 1914 – rain
Working on the addition to house. No letter from Ottawa.
I go to Neate’s & take a pot plant.
I receive an invitation to tea from Mr & Mrs Neate. To Reverend N.J. Thompson’s at 6:30 pm. Stay for dinner & chat till 9 pm. Back to Mrs Graham’s at 9 pm.
Friday 6 November 1914 – rain
Working on the addition to house.
Mr Callow fails to keep his contract regarding purchase of Rifles & returns them to me.
I negotiate a trade with Mr MacColl of Fromme Co. He takes them for $20.00 and arranges to pay Fromme the money as I owe Fromme a Bill. Fromme is paid his Bill in full.

Wednesday 4 November 1914 – rain
Working on addition to house this afternoon.
H.M.S. Cruiser Good Hope is sunk by Germans off Chilean Coast: all hands lost.
To Neate’s Residence in evening & took cuttings for Mrs Neate.
*HMS Good Hope and Battle of Coronel – The HMS Good Hope was a Drake-Class armoured cruiser built around 1900 for the British Royal Navy. On the 1st of November Good Hope was engaged by 3 German cruisers at the battle of Coronel. HMS Good Hope attempted to charge the German cruisers to better attack at close range, but was heavily bombarded by the German vessels. Eventually the forward magazine of Good Hope exploded, completely devastating the ship and causing it to sink quickly. All 919 men on board were lost including 4 Canadians. These 4 men were the first casualties of the newly created Royal Canadian Navy.

Sold my 303 & 22 Rifles to Mr Callow for $25.00. Made the transaction on the boat No. 3 Ferry.
To Wagstaffe’s Burnaby & stayed till 6:30 pm. Said goodbye to all. Wish speedy return etc:
Home at 9:30 pm. Had late supper with Mrs & Charles Graham & returned at 11:30 pm.
Turkey is at war with Russia & Great Britain.

To Quirt’s & said goodbye to the family also to Theobald’s.

Man named Fritz Johnson shoots himself on Draycott Road at Mr. Edge’s Residence.
